"It's Africa. Nobody cares about Africa."
Spoken by merciless dictator General Zateb Kazim in the movie Sahara, this quote gets a few uncomfortable chuckles every time it is spoken--but why?
Perhaps because, in a way, it seems to be true--at least for many living in the Western part of the world. It's far too easy to get sucked into our own lives, our own problems, our own joys, and to forget that there is more going on in the world around us, whether we are talking about Africa or somewhere else.
But why should we bother? Why fill up our time learning about other people, other places, or other cultures? Why should we not say, along with General Kazim, "Eh. Nobody cares about ______"?
Well, if there's anything I've learned over the years, it's that God has a great big story going on, and all of our stories are unique parts that all fit together to form his story. God is at work, doing amazing things, all around the world, and if we bury our heads in the sand, we'll miss out on joining him in his mission to restore all things to himself.
A report from 2011 asserts that one area in which Christianity seems to be rapidly expanding is in Africa ("Global Christianity – A Report"). Thus it seems that, contrary to General Kazim's statement, somebody DOES care about Africa--God.
And if God cares about Africa, maybe we should too.
And so, this site is dedicated to showcasing the story of Christianity in Africa, specifically in the country of Ghana. The navigation tabs are in both English and in Akan (one of the most prevalent of the many languages in Ghana) to help engage us with the story.
So, please join me in the sharing of the story (the "akwanmusɛm") of Christianity in Ghana.
